Some pictures...
Better late than never!
It's been exactly one month since I arrived in Seoul so I thought I better start my blog if I was ever going to. My sister threatened that I would lose her as my only follower if I didn't soon!
I will skip writing about the first week and a half which was filled with homelessness, homesickness, stress, tears, and typhoons. Otherwise I might have to change my blog title to Negative Nancytown and I like my Mumford and Sons reference! So onto the past 3 weeks instead.
I have been pretty busy meeting awesome people, seeing cool places, trying to get comfortable with teaching, and very slowly getting settled into my apartment. I live on a cute, narrow street next door to Katie, a sweet and fun Canadian, and above Beau, a cool dude from Philadelphia; both are co-workers. All of Megan and I's co-workers have been really welcoming! They have a traditional Tuesday night poker game so I am learning how to play! There have been a few late nights out in Itaewon or Hongdae, and by late nights I mean 5, 6, and 7 am. The bars here never close so no one tells us to go home! The nights usually end with a Turkish Kebab from the street. So good.
Teaching has been somewhat hectic due to the lack of training (none) and being told certain things last minute. The kids are sweet and eager to learn, with the exceptional few. Although I do tend to think the bratty ones are also the funniest ones. Let's just say I don't quite have the disciplining part down yet. It is a tiring job but there are definitely things that make it worth it. One girl, Janice, brought me cookies! And today Stella drew me a picture of me and her!
Seoul itself is a very large and crowded city but I ma enjoying it so far! The subway system is awesome and clean and I have never felt safer walking down the street at night. I have spent time in beautiful Olympic Park, looked at art at the Seoul National Museum, been shopping in Myeong Dong, and saw an FC Seoul soccer game at the World Cup Stadium (foreigners got a free beer and hot dog!). There really is so much to do here!
Ok I think this is long enough for one post but hopefully I will update more often and can go into more detail about all things Korean. Thanks for reading!
Oh and a funny quote:
Katie - "What happened? Did you forget all the English you learned before this?"
Jane (student) - "Because before teacher was man."
haha! Awesome.
